Our First Married Valentine’s Day
This was definitely a Valentine’s day to remember…not only because it was our first as a married couple, but that Hunter surprised me with a trip to Pensacola Beach! I started becoming very skeptical when on Sunday morning as we were getting ready for church, Hunter started asking me questions about things that I would pack if we were to go on a trip. I thought that was a little odd and so I got curious and asked what he was up to. He just asked that I pack up a few things that I would need for an overnight trip. So, trying not to ask for any more information, I packed up what I would need. I knew Hunter had something going on that he was obviously not going to tell me. I’m not big on surprises, so I tried to get any information (however subtle) out of him that I could. He gave me nothing, except that we were leaving for an unknown destination after church.
When we were on the road after church, I asked if he would at least tell me the estimated time of arrival. That way I could prepare myself for how long we were going to be in the car. He said it would take about 2.5-3 hours to get to our destination. From the time I heard that, I was immediately on my phone’s GPS trying to figure out where we could possibly be going that’s around that distance away. I know, I’m terrible about ruining surprises for myself 🙂 The closer we got to Pensacola, the more locations I could narrow it down to. Hunter took us all the way down to Navarre by the coast and drove all the way over to Pensacola beach, so I could get the scenic view. By that time, I knew where we were headed. Since I had it figured out by this point, I asked what clothes he packed me. He didn’t tell me to pack clothes, so I figured he had already done that for me. He just said he’d been pulling clothes out of my closet for the past few days! And I thought I was sneaky! I was surprised at first that he had been doing this without me noticing, but then I remember how many clothes and shoes I have and it made sense that I hadn’t noticed 🙂
We drove up to the Hilton Pensacola Beach and Hunter asked me to stay in the car while he took care of getting the room information. He came back to car and explained that apparently the room he had booked was “out of order”, so they were upgrading us to a suite with a better view and a balcony! That worked out nicely! While the hotel was getting our new room ready, we decided to take that opportunity to walk on the beach for a bit. When we arrived in our room, beautiful red roses were waiting for me from Hunter! And strawberries arrived shortly after that for our dessert after we came back from dinner. The next morning, we had breakfast delivered and had the most amazing view of the gulf while we ate. Hunter really is a romantic (he admits it too), and I love that so much about him! I am one lucky girl and I couldn’t imagine a better Valentine’s Day. He definitely went above and beyond the only thing I requested for Valentine’s Day…strawberries 🙂
